description | This article harks back to the phenomenological attempt which was made in Cette Lumière (This Light) by Claude Montserrat-Cals, to tell a landscape and to trigger off its appearance from a philosophical approach. It deals with the Baie des Anges in Nice and its morning light glistening on the sea. It is a Persian text from the 12th century which is taken as an indicator: The Wisdom of the Mystic East by Sohravardî. He develops an ontology on light which, at the same time of renewing Aristotle and Plotinus's double metaphysical heritage, gives its full meaning to the Greek etymology of “Nice” – Victory – , and to the “Angels” of the bay. The ontology operates the unveiling of this so specific light – both angelic and victory-like – and makes it happen in a metaphysical landscape. |
