Summary:The power house behind Jiayan dam in Guizhou Province is located in Karst area.Affectedby the backwater effect of underground river, the tailwater head of power plant reaches 44.92 m,and the retaining height is equivalent to a gravity dam in medium height, which brings greatdifficulties to the layout and structural design of power house. By innovating the structure typeof power house and adopting the three-dimensional layered structure of main and auxiliary powerhouses, this paper successfully solves the problems of structure design, access traffic and floodcontrol safety of high tailwater power house in Jiayan project. The new-structure power house usesexternal shaft and internal slab beam to resist high tailwater pressure and the inner space of theshaft to arrange main and auxiliary power houses, which can save the land area, project quantityand investment, and better adapt to the layout conditions of power house in Karst area with hightailwater. Therefore, it can be considered as a reference for other similar projects.
