Description
Summary:In a situation where a majority of the population did not have French as their first language until the beginning of the 20th century, France's language policy, through schools and textbooks, will consist in imposing French as the national language, while treating other minority languages as inferior. However, the existence of a current, based in particular on scholarly knowledge, which challenges this hierarchical vision of things, will very gradually lead to the recognition of the existence no longer of the patois but of the regional languages of France.
