Summary:The idea of a lack of materiality in the field of born-digital artworks can be a major hurdle within a conservation approach. It often easily hides a specific form of materiality on which it is in fact possible for preservation professionals to act. Through the case study of several obsolete audiovisual and digital artworks, we will try to demonstrate how and why the deterioration processes of these artworks are tightly linked to a form of materiality that can be arguably as much dependent on time as it is for other types of artworks.
