A reproducible representation of healthy tibiofemoral kinematics during stair descent using REFRAME – part I: REFRAME foundations and validation by Ariana Ortigas-Vásquez, William R. Taylor, Barbara Postolka, Pascal Schütz, Allan Maas, Matthias Woiczinski, Thomas M. Grupp, Adrian Sauer

    Published 2025-01-01
“…Here, building on previous work that introduced a frame orientation optimisation method and demonstrated its potential to induce convergence towards a consistent kinematic signal, we present the REference FRame Alignment MEthod (REFRAME) that addresses both rotational and translational kinematics, is validated here for a healthy tibiofemoral joint, and allows flexible selection of optimisation criteria to fittingly address specific research questions. While not claiming to improve the accuracy of joint kinematics or reference frame axes, REFRAME does enable a representation of knee kinematic signals that accounts for differences in local frames (regardless of how these differences were introduced, e.g. anatomical heterogeneity, use of different data capture modalities or joint axis approaches, intra- and inter-rater reliability, etc.), as evidenced by peak root-mean-square errors of 0.24° ± 0.17° and 0.03 mm ± 0.01 mm after its implementation. …”

The impact of parental absence on the mental health of middle school students in rural areas of Western China by Xiaohong Ren, Cen Lin, Lu Pan, Qiuyue Fan, Dapeng Wu, JinLong He, Ping He, Jiaming Luo

    Published 2025-03-01
“…To investigate the associations between various patterns of parental absence and psychological outcomes (depression, anxiety, and stress) among middle school students, binary logistic regression analysis was performed, while the model’s goodness-of-fit was evaluated by using the Hosmer-Lemeshow test, with a p > 0.05 indicating satisfactory model fit.ResultsThis cross-sectional study investigated mental health outcomes among a cohort of 8,606 middle school students, revealing notable prevalence rates of depressive symptoms (6.7%), anxiety (6.1%), and stress-related symptoms (8.1%). …”

Using a Multilingual AI Care Agent to Reduce Disparities in Colorectal Cancer Screening for Higher Fecal Immunochemical Test Adoption Among Spanish-Speaking Patients: Retrospective... by Meenesh Bhimani, R Hal Baker, Markel Sanz Ausin, Gerald Meixiong, Rae Lasko, Mariska Raglow-Defranco, Alex Miller, Subhabrata Mukherjee, Saad Godil, Anderson Cook, Jonathan D Agnew, Ashish Atreja

    Published 2025-06-01
“…ConclusionsAI-powered outreach achieved significantly higher engagement among Spanish-speaking patients, challenging the assumption that technological interventions inherently disadvantage non–English-speaking populations. The 2.6-fold higher FIT test opt-in rate among Spanish-speaking patients represents a notable departure from historical patterns of health care disparities. …”

Performance of unmarked abundance models with data from machine‐learning classification of passive acoustic recordings by Cameron J. Fiss, Samuel Lapp, Jonathan B. Cohen, Halie A. Parker, Jeffery T. Larkin, Jeffery L. Larkin, Justin Kitzes

    Published 2024-08-01
“…Our findings were consistent across two species with differing relative abundance and habitat use patterns. The higher precision of models fit using ARU data is likely due to higher cumulative detection probability, which itself may be the result of greater survey effort using ARUs and machine‐learning classifiers to sample significantly more time for focal species at any given point. …”
