Heat-Treated Wood as a Substrate for Coatings, Weathering of Heat-Treated Wood, and Coating Performance on Heat-Treated Wood by Vlatka Jirouš-Rajković, Josip Miklečić

    Published 2019-01-01
“…The major patented European commercial heat treatment processes have trade names ThermoWood, Platowood, Retiwood, Le Bois Perdure, and Oil-Heat-Treated Wood (OHT). To what extent modification of wood affects the resistance of wood to weathering is also an important aspect for wood applications, especially where appearance is important. …”

Modification of surface layers by high energy treatment by M. N. Vereschagin, S. N. Tselueva, M. Yu. Tseluev

    Published 2019-08-01
“…Exposure to laser radiation leads to a change in the temperature field of the substance being treated. The nature of heating, which is determined by the rate of change of temperature, temperature gradients, the time to reach the temperatures of structural and phase transitions, is different depending on the properties of the material being processed and the processing conditions. When modifying the surface layers by high-energy processing by changing the power and time of exposure to laser radiation, you can get a wide range of structural states of the treated surface areas of the material. It is shown that the shape of TVP diagrams and cooling curves of precision alloys on the surface of a two-layer metal system after heating them with laser radiation are determined by the competition of two processes acting in opposite directions: an increase in the driving force of the crystallization process with an increase in supercooling and a decrease in the surface of atoms. The method of surface modification by moving laser radiation allows to obtain amorphous functional layers of precision alloys on the surface of metal products.…”

Surface Modification Technologies for Space and Planetary Applications by Якоб Клеймен

    Published 2025-03-01
“…A number of surface modification solutions that include treatment of the surfaces by chemical or physical processes and that differ from the traditional protective coating approaches were developed by ITL in the last 30 years that change the surface properties of treated materials, protecting them from the hazards of low Earth orbit (LEO) and Geostationary orbit (GEO) environments or providing dust mitigation properties when used in Lunar environment. …”
