Water quality evaluation, pollution sources apportionment, and environment management strategies in plain reservoirs: A case study of Tianhe Lake, China by Jing Gao, Jian Li, Tianheng Tong, Jianying Chao, Zhiqiang Dong, Jianmin Zhan

    Published 2025-06-01
“…The minimal water quality index (WQImin) models developed using these five indicators and relative weights exhibited higher accuracy in water quality assessment, with the coefficient of determination (R2) and Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) values of 0.886 and 2.586, respectively. Pollution source apportionment analysis suggested that agricultural runoff and domestic sewage discharge were the predominant contributors to pollutant loads. …”

Sources analysis and risk assessment of heavy metals in soil in a polymetallic mining area in southeastern Hubei based on Monte Carlo simulation by Jing Wang, Bo Wang, Qibin Zhao, Jinnan Cao, Xiao Xiao, Di Zhao, Zhenya Chen, Di Wu

    Published 2025-01-01
“…The main findings are as follows: (1) Among the heavy metals present in the soil, copper (Cu) has the highest average concentration at 278.54 mg/kg, followed by zinc (Zn) at 161.16 mg/kg, chromium (Cr) at 75.23 mg/kg, nickel (Ni) at 30.38 mg/kg, arsenic (As) at 22.53 mg/kg, cadmium (Cd) at 0.76 mg/kg, and mercury (Hg) at 0.14 mg/kg; (2) The distribution of heavy metal concentrations exhibits significant regional variations, with the spatial pattern of pollution indicating that TLS is more affected than JLS, as evidenced by the Pollution Load Index (PLI) values; (3) Three potential sources of heavy metals were identified: natural sources, anthropogenic activities (including industrial production and agricultural practices), and atmospheric deposition (both dry and wet); (4) While severe contamination levels of specific metals such as copper and cadmium are observed in JLS and TLS soils, the overall contamination is mild, suggesting complex contamination dynamics; (5) Cadmium poses a moderate to high ecological risk, being the most sensitive factor in the comprehensive ecological risk assessment with a contribution rate of 65.2 %; (6) The concentrations of heavy metals in the soil present certain health risks, with children being more vulnerable than adults. …”

Pulsed Focused Nonlinear Acoustic Fields from Clinically Relevant Therapeutic Sources in Layered Media: Experimental Data and Numerical Prediction Results by Tamara KUJAWSKA

    Published 2013-10-01
“…The good agreement between the measured data and numerical calculations has shown that the model based on the TAWE approach is well suited to predict both the peak and harmonic pressure variations in the pulsed focused nonlinear sound beams produced in layered media by clinically relevant therapeutic sources. Finally, the pulsed focused nonlinear fields from the transducer used in two-layer media: water/castor oil, water/silicone oil (Dow Corning Ltd., Coventry, UK), water/human brain and water/pig liver were predicted for various values of the nonlinearity parameter of tested media.…”
