Explaining Ṣadrā’s Response to Joseph Levine’s Explanatory Gap Riddle Based on the Doctrine of Abstraction of Perception by Mahdi Karimi, Ahmad Vaezi

    Published 2021-06-01
“…Considering Ṣadrā’s view on the abstraction of perception and the arguments he has put forward, a reasoned answer to the riddle of the explanatory gap is provided. Ṣadrā’s explanation of perception and the soul is included in the dualistic interpretation, but his interpretation justifies the issue of perception and its quality more coherently, considering the abstract dignity of the soul and the fact that the soul is the source of any consciousness. …”

Interventions designed to promote the consumption of locally produced foods: a scoping review by Emily Haynes, Catherine R. Brown, Cassandra Halliday, Lutgardo Alcantara, Cristobal Cayetano, Lota Creencia, Lea Janine Gajardo, Amanda Goodwin, Cornelia Guell, Christina Howitt, Viliamu Iese, Alison Karley, John Roderick Madarcos, Karen Madarcos, Karyn Morrissey, Khadija Patel, Natasha Sobers, Filipe Veisa, Madhuvanti M. Murphy, Nigel Unwin, Nigel Unwin

    Published 2025-05-01
“…Agroecological principles were applied to Global North and Global South interventions, but a greater proportion of the Global South studies applied agroecological practices (GS 30%; GN 4%).DiscussionThis map of experimental research on local food interventions identifies key differences in intervention types and agroecological principles and practices applied in Global South and Global North countries, potential learnings between settings, and gaps in the evidence. We call for greater coherence in the development, evaluation and reporting of local food interventions to enable synthesis on their effectiveness and to strengthen evidence on local food approaches aiming to improve human nutrition and planetary health.Systematic review registrationhttps://www.crd.york.ac.uk/PROSPERO/view/CRD42023428104, identifier [CRD42023428104].…”

Advanced optical receiver architectures for ultra-high capacity but low-cost short-reach optical interconnects by Honglin JI, Xueyang LI, Zhixue HE, Weisheng HU, Shieh William

    Published 2022-07-01
“…The deployment of emerging network infrastructure such as hyper-scale datacenters urgently requires ultra-high capacity but low-cost short-reach optical interconnects.Conventional intensity modulation and direct detection possesses a simple receiver structure but can only recover the intensity information, which restrains the capability of further scaling up the system capacity.Standard coherent detection can deliver high-order modulation formats and achieve high-capacity transmission.Nevertheless, the coherent transceiver requiring expensive narrow-linewidth laser sources and computation-intensive digital signal processing precludes its wide applications in short-reach systems. The advanced direct-detection optical receivers aim to combine the advantages of both direct detection and coherent detection and bridge the gap between them. Therefore, the advanced optical receivers are mainly based on self-coherent detection.Advanced single-polarization, dual-polarization, and few-mode optical receiver architectures wereintroduced. The proposed advanced optical receivers can retrieve the optical field via direct detection without using the narrow-linewidth lasers, which enables the realization of ultra-high capability but low-cost short-reach optical interconnects.…”
