Forecasting framework for dominant SARS-CoV-2 strains before clade replacement using phylogeny-informed genetic distances
Published 2025-06-01“…Furthermore, we introduced a forecasting framework to estimate the potential of emerging variants leading to clade replacement by analyzing non-synonymous and synonymous genetic distances from clade roots, which reflect global herd immune pressure.MethodsNon-synonymous and synonymous genetic distances from both Wuhan and clade root strains were assessed to predict whether a clade would become dominant or extinct within 3 months before the clade replacement.ResultsThrough five observed clade replacements up to January 2024, we captured the quantifiable heterogeneity in non-synonymous and synonymous genetic distances of the S gene from clade roots between dominant and extinct variants, as measured by the extent of novelty, whether through gradual or drastic change.DiscussionOur framework demonstrated high predictability for identifying the next clade root before replacement in both training and test datasets (area under the receiver operating characteristic curve [AUROC] > 0.90) by incorporating differential weighting of non-synonymous and synonymous genetic distances. …”

Mortality after transcatheter aortic valve replacement in young multimorbid patients as compared to an age-, gender- and comorbidity-matched background population
Published 2025-06-01“…IntroductionContrary to the current guidelines patients with symptomatic severe aortic stenosis and ≤65 years of age are often referred for transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR). However, the outcome after TAVR in this patient cohort remains unclear.ObjectivesThis study aimed to assess the rationale for denial of surgical aortic valve replacement (SAVR) in young multimorbid patients referred for TAVR, to evaluate 3-year all-cause mortality and to compare outcomes with a matched control cohort.Patients and methodsRetrospective data were collected on all consecutive patients ≤65 years of age with severe aortic stenosis treated with TAVR at 9 centres between 2010 and 2019. …”

Reduction of the Electrical Resistance of Grounding Devices by the Use of a Soil Replacement Mixture Based on Graphite and Hydrogel to Stabilize the Electrophysical Parameters of t...
Published 2023-08-01“…Therefore, the paper also considers other ways to reduce the resistance of the ground loop; in particular, the authors propose a method for reducing the resistance of a grounding device based on the method of partial replacing the soil in the near-electrode region with a mixture with a lower resistivity capable of collecting moisture based on graphite and hydrogel. …”

Urea-ka: replacing inorganic nitrogen fertilizer with Azolla pinnata maintains rice yields with reduced input costs in the Senegal River Valley
Published 2025-12-01“…We assessed the feasibility of Azolla-rice intercropping in Saint-Louis, Senegal using a mixed-methods approach. We conducted interviews with farmers to assess their perceptions of Azolla-rice farming while they participated in an experiment to compare rice yields among four treatments: control plots (the existing practices of the farmer), Azolla plots (existing practices and adding fresh Azolla), low input plots (a 50% reduction of urea), and low input + Azolla plots (reduced urea + Azolla) in farmers’ paddies located in the Senegal River Valley. …”
