Effects of ginger supplementation in individuals with mild to moderate joint pain I: ratings of pain, functional capacity, and markers of inflammation
Published 2025-12-01“…Data were analyzed using the general linear model (GLM) analysis of variance with repeated measures, mean changes from baseline with 95% confidence intervals, and chi-squared analysis. Results There was evidence that ginger supplementation: 1.) attenuated perceptions of muscle pain in the vastus medialis (Day 2: χ2 p = 0.087); 2.) reported less pain from sitting (Day 2: χ2 p = 0.02), while nocturnal pain (Day 32: χ2 p = 0.075, Day 58: (χ2 p = 0.097), weight bearing pain (Day 32: χ2 p = 0.058), physical functioning of performing heavy duties (Day 32: χ2 p = 0.100), and physical functioning of performing light duties (Day 2: χ2 p = 0.064) on WOMAC questions; 3.) experienced significant reductions in WOMAC overall ratings of pain, stiffness, physical function, and total score values, particularly in 48-hour follow-up measures; 4.) reported less pain during nighttime bed rest (Day 2: χ2 p = 0.065; Day 32: χ2 p = 0.032) and when going up and down stairs (Day 32: χ2 p = 0.097) from the LEQ; and, 5.) promoted significant differences over time and/or between groups in IL-β, IL-5, IL-6, IL-8, INF-γ, TNF-α, and high sensitivity C-reactive Protein at various points during the study. Conclusion Ginger supplementation promotes some favorable effects on exercise-induced perceptions of pain, functional capacity, and inflammatory markers in men and women who have mild to moderate muscle and joint pain.Registered clinical trial #ISRCTN74292348.…”

Effect of processing methods on the nutrient, antinutrient, functional, and antioxidant properties of pigeon pea (Cajanus cajan (L.) Millsp.) flour
Published 2024-12-01“…All processing methods effectively reduced antinutritional components, with germination achieving the most substantial reductions in phytic acid and tannins. Functional properties were also affected: bulk density decreased across all methods, while water and oil absorption capacities increased, particularly in germinated flour. …”

Diversity, functionality, and stability: shaping ecosystem multifunctionality in the successional sequences of alpine meadows and alpine steppes on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau
Published 2025-03-01“…We further identify the primary environmental drivers of these changes and evaluate their collective impact on ecosystem multifunctionality. Our analysis reveals that, as vegetation communities progress from alpine meadows toward alpine steppes, multi-year average precipitation and temperature decline significantly, accompanied by reductions in soil nutrients. …”

Outcome and safety 90 days after combined airway valve treatment of the right upper and middle lobes in patients with severe pulmonary emphysema
Published 2025-01-01“…Abstract Background In COPD patients with severe right-sided emphysema, complete major and incomplete minor fissure, implantation of one-way valves in both the right upper (RUL) and middle lobes (ML) is a possible approach for endoscopic lung volume reduction. The aim of this retrospective analysis was to evaluate the response to therapy and the complication rate at 90 days (90d-FU) after combined RUL-ML valve implantation. …”

Atrial remodelling and dysfunction in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy: prognostic role and therapeutic target
Published 2025-07-01“…Emerging therapies, like cardiac myosin inhibitors, also improve LV function but present complex effects on atrial performance, with some evidence suggesting a reduction in atrial strain that warrants further investigation.ConclusionAtrial remodelling is a significant marker of disease severity in HCM and an important independent predictor of adverse outcomes, including AF and cardioembolic events. …”

A randomised, double-blind clinical study into the effect of zinc citrate trihydrate toothpaste on oral plaque microbiome ecology and function
Published 2025-03-01“…Increases at the species level were observed for taxa from the genus Veillonella with decrease in a taxon from the genus Fusobacterium for the zinc toothpaste. Analysis of microbiome function based on predicted metagenomic and metatranscriptomic analysis show that use of the zinc toothpaste is associated with an in-vivo reduction in glycolysis, consistent with the mode of action of zinc and, increases in processes linked to gum-health (lysine biosynthesis), and to whole-body health (nitrate reduction). …”
