Time-dynamic associations between symptom-related expectations, self-management experiences and somatic symptom severity in everyday life: an ecological momentary assessment study... by Bernd Löwe, Yvonne Nestoriuc, Anne Toussaint, Stefanie Hahn, Franz Pauls, Simon Kirchhof

    Published 2025-02-01
“…Multilevel mixed-effects linear regression analyses were conducted for data analysis.Setting Data was collected in real-time from university students via smartphones, with three predetermined assessments per day over seven consecutive days.Participants A total of 104 students (63.5% male, 0% diverse) who were 18 years or older, possessing sufficient German language skills and had access to an Android-powered smartphone were included.Interventions Participants were randomised to one of two different expectation framing groups, either receiving questionnaires for the expected impairment due to somatic symptoms (negative framing) or for the expected freedom from impairment due to somatic symptoms (positive framing).Primary outcome measures Somatic symptom severity was assessed using an adapted version of the Patient Health Questionnaire, with 11-point instead of 3-point Likert-scales. Symptom-related expectations were assessed using 11-point Numerical Rating Scales and self-management experiences were assessed using binary variables. Results Concurrent analysis revealed a significant association between symptom-related expectations and symptom severity (β=0.934, p<0.001), but no significant associations between self-management experiences and symptom severity. …”

Machine Learning Applications to Dust Storms: A Meta-Analysis by Reem K. Alshammari, Omer Alrwais, Mehmet Sabih Aksoy

    Published 2022-10-01
“…Different methods are used to predict dust storms, such as observing satellite images, analyzing meteorological data, and using numerical weather prediction model forecasts. However, recent studies have shown that machine learning algorithms have higher capacities to predict dust storms in less time and with fewer processing operations compared to numerical weather models. …”

Saliva Droplet Evaporation Experiment and Simple Correlation of Evaporation-falling Curve under Different Temperatures and RH by Dong-Bin Kwak, Hayden D. Fischer, David Y. H. Pui

    Published 2023-01-01
“…By considering the evaporation and gravitational settling effects, the saliva airborne lifetime, i.e., the evaporation-falling curve is numerically calculated and characterized. In addition to this numerical calculation results, we present the simple correlation equation for obtaining the evaporation-falling curve under different temperatures and relative humidity.…”

Generalised power series expansions for the elliptic planar families of Higgs + jet production at two loops by F. Moriello

    Published 2020-01-01
“…For example, per- forming a series expansion on a typical contour above the heavy-quark threshold takes on average O(1 second) per integral with worst relative error of O(10−32), on a single CPU core. After the series is found, the numerical evaluation of the integrals in any point of the contour is virtually instant. …”
