Differential lipid dependence of the function of bacterial sodium channels. by Nazzareno D'Avanzo, Emily C McCusker, Andrew M Powl, Andrew J Miles, Colin G Nichols, B A Wallace

    Published 2013-01-01
“…NavMs and NavSp showed strong preference for different negatively-charged lipids (phosphatidylinositol and phosphatidylglycerol, respectively), whilst NaChBac exhibited a more modest variation with lipid type. To investigate the molecular bases of these differences we used synchrotron radiation circular dichroism spectroscopy to compare structures in liposomes of different composition, and molecular modeling and electrostatics calculations to rationalize the functional differences seen. …”

EUROPEAN CROSS-BORDER ASSOCIATIONS: ON THE SOCIAL FUNCTION OF LAW by Justyna Dąbrowska

    Published 2024-12-01
“…I focus my considerations on the concept of the law’s social function to ensure legal effectiveness. However, effectiveness should not be understood as compliance of the social results of a set of legal norms with the legislator’s intentions, but instead as the situation when the law is well embedded institutionally and leads to an increase in social and individual utility. …”

(b) Is the bilingual effect concentrated in a specific component of executive functions (process-specific), or does it extend to all three components (process-general)? …”

FUNCTIONAL RE-MODELING INFLUENCE OF EPILEPS IN BRAIN TUMOR by A. A. Miranda, V. A. Zhadnov

    Published 2017-03-01
“…Statistical, geometric and spectral parameters of heart rate variability as well as coherence and cross-correlational EEG analyses used to access the functional states of the patients.Results. The study revealed sympathetic predominance of the autonomic nervous system in patients with epilepsy associated brain tumors as opposed to parasympathetic predominance in non epilepsy associated brain tumors indicating significant stress to regulatory systems and depletion of subcortical reserves of the cardiovascular system, further more stretching the adaptation limits, ultimately leading to depression of autonomic regulatory mechanisms and predominance of central mechanisms of regulation and adaptation.Conclusion. …”

A prospective clinical study of functional exercises beforearteriovenostomy by CHEN Hao, LIU Juan

    Published 2020-01-01
“…Objective To study the effect of preoperative functional exercises on the success rate of arteriovenostomy and postoperative complications. Methods The subjects were randomly divided into two groups:preoperative non-exercise group and preoperative exercise group. The age, sex,APACHE II score and serum Cystatin C value before operation, and cephalic vein diameter, hemoglobin, platelet, albumin, and cholesterol two months before operation and on the operation day were collected. And the subjects were observed for half a year after operation. The observation indicators included the success of internal fistula surgery, the maturation time of internal fistula, the use time of internal fistula, the blood flow of the brachial artery, and postoperative complications. And the differences between the groups were analyzed. Results There were 75 patients in the non-exercise group and 76 patients in the two-month exercise group.Overall success rate of surgery was 92.1%.The success rate of preoperative exercise group was 94.7%,and that of preoperative non-exercise group was 89.3%,with statistically significant difference between the two groups(P=0.03).The preoperative exercise group had a blood flow at the fistular orifice more than the non-exercise group by 38.8 ml/min.The average fistular maturation time in the exercise group was shorter than that in the non-exercise group by 4 days, with statistically significant difference between the two groups. However, there were no significant differences between the two groups in the comparison of the use time of internal fistula and the incidence of postoperative complications. Conclusions Functional exercises before arteriovenostomy can improve the success rate of surgery and increase the brachial blood flow, but it does not prolong the survival time of internal fistula or reduce the complication incidence.…”
