Balancing detection and eradication for control of epidemics: sudden oak death in mixed-species stands. by Martial L Ndeffo Mbah, Christopher A Gilligan

    Published 2010-09-01
“…Contrary to simple expectations our results show that an intermediate level of detection is optimal. Low levels of detection, characteristic of low effort expended on searching and detection of diseased trees, and high detection levels, exemplified by the deployment of large amounts of resources to identify diseased trees, fail to bring the epidemic under control. …”

Coupling relationship between land use transition and rural transformation development: A case study of county-level regions in Jiangsu Province by GE Dazhuan, WANG Rumin, LU Xiaoxue

    Published 2025-01-01
“…[Results] (1) During the study period (2000-2020), the land use transition and rural transformation development development in counties of Jiangsu Province presented a pattern of evolving from low-speed heterogeneity to high-speed homogeneity, characterized by the macroscopic features of leading in some local areas and an orderly gradient improvement. (2) The coupling relationship of land use transition and rural transformation development in Jiangsu Province had undergone two stages: Transition from the province’s imbalance to partial low coupling, then from low coupling to high coupling. …”

Study on Structure and Seepage Control Safety of Second-Phase Cofferdam in Datengxia Water Conservancy Project by ZUO Yongzhen, CHEN Liang, XU Han, LI Bo, CHEN Jinsong

    Published 2023-01-01
“…The second-phase earth-rock cofferdam in the Datengxia Water Conservancy Project is one of the most important temporary buildings, and its design and construction reflect major key technologies of the Datengxia Water Conservancy Project. In order to ensure the safety of the second-phase deepwater cofferdam project,a special scientific research demonstration was conducted on the structure and seepage control safety of the second-phase deepwater cofferdam. In view of the difficulty in determining the density of the cofferdam formed by deepwater dumping and the feasibility of the anti-seepage system with a single anti-seepage wall connected to the geomembrane, experimental research was carried out through the centrifugal model test,so as to determine the underwater dumping density and angle of repose, the mechanical characteristics of cofferdam filler, the shear characteristics of the interface between filler and plastic concrete, and the characteristics of plastic concrete materials. The finite element analysis of stress deformation and the seepage stability analysis of the cofferdam were carried out,and the safety analysis evaluation and the section optimization design of the cofferdam were performed. The second-phase cofferdam has undergone two flood seasons of safe water retention operation, with a small total seepage flow, slight maximum settlement, and low horizontal displacement. The scientific research work has well supported the design requirements.…”
