Intimate partner violence related to disclosure of sickle cell disease during pregnancy: evidence from the sickle cell belt of central India by Nafisa Halim, Archana Patel, Archana Patel, Janet M. Turan, Anuradha V. Shrikhande, Patricia L. Kavanagh, Mari-Lynn Drainoni, Mari-Lynn Drainoni, Mari-Lynn Drainoni, David Henderson, David Henderson, David Henderson, Shweta Murali Anand, Nandini Agarwal, Patricia L. Hibberd, Patricia L. Hibberd, Patricia L. Hibberd

    Published 2025-05-01
“…We used the 49-item Indian Family Violence and Control Scale (α = 0.88) to measure IPV and estimated associations using binomial logistic regressions with robust standard errors.ResultsPregnant women with a positive solubility test were at least twice as likely to experience physical, sexual, or psychological IPV as pregnant women with a negative solubility test, even after adjusting for baseline differences between these two groups on common IPV risk factors including the lower level of education and scheduled-caste membership.ConclusionPregnant women who have a positive solubility test are at risk of IPV after following routine instructions to disclose their test results to their male partners, so that they can undergo further testing to determine the baby’s risk of SCD, sickle cell trait, or no risk.ImplicationsIn resource-poor settings with high SCD prevalence, antenatal clinics are increasingly screening pregnant women to prevent mother-to-child transmission of SCD. …”

Drug-Food Interactions: The Hidden Frontier in Clinical Practice by Muhammad Saleh Faisal

    Published 2025-06-01
“…., the effects are either increased decreased, or a new effect is produced that neither substance causes on its own.1 It represents an important source of medication errors.2 In contemporary clinical practice, drug-drug interactions (DDIs) are a well-established concern, and there are protocols, alerts, and clinical guidelines in place to reduce harm.3 In contrast, drug-food interactions (DFIs) have long been under-recognised and frequently overlooked in pharmacotherapy. …”

People adhere to content warning labels even when they are wrong due to ecologically rational adaptations by Benjamin D. Horne, Dorit Nevo

    Published 2025-04-01
“…Specifically, news consumers form heuristics based on past interactions with warning labels, and those heuristics can spill-over into new media environments where warning label errors are more frequent. The most important implication of these results is that it is more important to thoughtfully consider what information needs to be labeled than it is to attempt to label all false information. …”

INTERVENTIONISM: AN ECONOMIC ANALYSIS OF PRICELESS RESOURCE ALLOCATION by Matei Alexandru APAVALOAEI

    Published 2015-06-01
“…This more general re-statement of the Misesian theory of interventionism from the point of view of property economics has the benefit of covering all possible policy measures while deducing the implications from an a priori perspective. From a methodological standpoint, this approach provides a more realist account of the implications of government involvement in the workings of the market as it does not require any unrealistic assumptions like: perfect information, equilibrium and dead weight loss comparison, or postulate a certain type of behaviour - benevolence, narrow self-interest or ideological error.…”

Target cueing provides support for target- and resource-based models of the attentional blink. by Hannah L Pincham, Dénes Szűcs

    Published 2012-01-01
“…This experiment additionally revealed that cueing was most effective when resources were not devoted to the cue, thereby implicating capacity limitations in the AB. Across both experiments, a novel order-error measure suggested that errors tend to decrease with an increasing duration between the targets, but also revealed that certain stimulus conditions result in stable order accuracy. …”
