Case Report: Combination of focal vibration therapy and botulinum toxin injections to treat equinus gait in a child with unilateral spastic cerebral palsy by Christophe Boulay, Christophe Boulay, Christophe Boulay, Jacques-Olivier Coq, Morgan Sangeux, Morgan Sangeux, Guillaume Authier, Guillaume Authier, Alexis Ulian, Alexis Ulian, Maud Pradines, Maud Pradines, Marjolaine Baude, Marjolaine Baude, Béatrice Desnous, Jean-Luc Jouve, Jean-Luc Jouve, Bernard Parratte, Emilie Peltier, Sébastien Pesenti, Jean-Michel Gracies, Jean-Michel Gracies

    Published 2025-02-01
“…In children with spastic cerebral palsy (CP), FVT has also been suggested to reduce spasticity, increase torque production and improve gait function, but evidence is limited.MethodsWe report the case of a child with unilateral spastic CP (USCP) and equinus gait (GFMCS II level) with (i) ankle dorsiflexor paresis, (ii) ankle plantar flexor overactivity, especially in gastrosoleus complex and peroneus longus, (iii) spastic myopathy, affecting gastrosoleus complex in particular, and (iv) calf pain seemingly related to muscle overactivity. The child was treated with a two-month program of alternating dorsiflexor and plantar flexor focal vibration therapy (FVT) and botulinum neurotoxin A (BoNT-A) injections into plantar flexors, alongside conventional physiotherapy. Results and discussionClinical evaluations during the two-month program showed (i) improved walking speed (ii) decreased ankle dorsiflexor paresis and ankle plantar flexor overactivity, especially spastic co-contraction and spasticity, (iii) improved passive extensibility in plantar flexors, and (iv) reduced pain. …”

An Integrated Strategy to Treat and Control Acid Mine Drainage from Waste Rock and Underground Workings at the Former Franklin Mine in Nova Scotia, Canada: Field Performance Monito... by Christopher Power

    Published 2025-01-01
“…Site reclamation was completed in 2010 and involved the following: (1) excavation of the dispersed waste rock (117,000 m2) and backfilling with clean soil; (2) consolidation of the excavated waste rock into a covered, compact waste rock pile (WRP) (25,000 m2); and (3) construction of a passive treatment system for the discharging underground mine water. An extensive field sampling program was conducted between 2011 and 2018 to monitor a range of meteorological, cover material, waste rock, groundwater, and surface water quality parameters. …”

Comparing the Effects of Mulligan Straight Leg Raising Exercise and Post-Facilitation Stretching Exercises on Hamstring Flexibility in Physiotherapy Students: A Randomized Controll... by Doaa Amin, Amr Abdel-Aziem, Reham Diab, Sameh Ahmed, Amira Abd-Elmonem, Amira El-Gendy, Marwa Eid, Efrem Kentiba, Mohamed ElMeligie

    Published 2024-10-01
“…Conclusion ‘Muscle energy technique’ appears to be more effective than Mulligan straight leg raise in improving hamstring flexibility, suggesting its potential as a preferred method in physiotherapy for treating hamstring tightness. Further research is needed to explore the long-term effects of Muscle energy technique and the potential benefits of a maintenance program.…”
