Microplastics Emission from Eroding Wind Turbine Blades: Preliminary Estimations of Volume by Leon Mishnaevsky, Antonios Tempelis, Yauheni Belahurau, Nicolai Frost-Jensen Johansen

    Published 2024-12-01
“…While the contribution of wind blade erosion is small compared to other sources, the results of this work underline the importance of the (A) effective leading-edge protection of wind turbines, (B) regular and efficient maintenance, and (C) the optimal selection of materials used.…”

Compact High Selectivity Patch Antenna Under Triple-Mode Resonance via Loading Symmetrical Slots by Mingli Sun, Qianwen Liu, Lei Zhu

    Published 2025-01-01
“…Good agreement between the simulated and measured results, including frequency responses of reflection coefficient and radiation gain, is observed. Compared with other reported patch antennas, the proposed antenna not only holds simple layout and compact size in configuration, but also realizes a wideband filtering radiation performance with high frequency selectivity by virtue of excitation and operation of three resonant modes in a single patch radiator.…”

Comparative genomic insights into adaptation, selection signatures, and population dynamics in indigenous Indian sheep and foreign breeds by Malarmathi Muthusamy, Oludayo Michael Akinsola, Oludayo Michael Akinsola, Pritam Pal, Chitra Ramasamy, Saravanan Ramasamy, Abdulraheem Arome Musa, Aranganoor Kannan Thiruvenkadan

    Published 2025-08-01
“…BackgroundIndia’s indigenous sheep breeds have evolved under extreme and diverse agro‐ecological pressures, yet the genomic basis of their resilience and local adaptation remains poorly understood.MethodThis study combines genomic inbreeding estimates, runs of homozygosity (ROH), population structure analyses, and composite selection scans to investigate three native Indian breeds—Changthangi, Deccani, and Garole—within a panel of nine breeds that also includes populations from Africa (Ethiopian Menz), East and South Asia (Tibetan, Chinese Merino, Bangladesh Garole, Bangladesh East), and Europe (Suffolk).ResultsROH and heterozygosity estimates revealed strong contrasts: Bangladesh East sheep exhibited high genomic inbreeding (FROH≈14.4%) and low observed heterozygosity (∼30.6%), whereas Deccani sheep showed low inbreeding (FROH≈1.1%) and high observed heterozygosity (∼35.6%), consistent with broader gene flow and larger flock sizes. …”

Enabling the Ocean Internet of Things with Renewable Marine Energy by Mathew Topper, Nicolas Jarnoux, Ronan Costello, Cian Murtagh, Simone Giorgi, Ben Kennedy

    Published 2025-06-01
“…Features of the BlueBox system include modular offshore-focussed hardware, no-code configuration and control of peripherals (such as sensors and actuators), duplex transmission of data using multiple media, serverless cloud server architecture, and an edge computing framework. This paper presents an overview of BlueBox, tank tests for system validation of a prototype wave-energy powered ocean-observing platform, and a discussion of future applications of the technology. …”

Validity of inferring size-selective mortality and a critical size limit in Pacific salmon from scale circulus spacing. by Terry D Beacham, H Andres Araujo, Strahan Tucker, Marc Trudel

    Published 2018-01-01
“…In order to invoke size selection as an important driver of mortality during the first year of ocean rearing, it is necessary to demonstrate not only that size-selective mortality is directed towards the smaller members of the population, but that the selective nature of the mortality can account for a substantial portion of the observed mortality. …”
