The results obtained in this paper support the evidence found in other studies: breastfeeding and the pace of childbearing are the most important reproductive patterns affecting child mortality risks, and their strong, consistent effects tend to persist even after the introduction of various socioeconomic variables as controls: short preceding birth intervals and short durations of breastfeeding increase the risk of death during the first two years of life.…”
