Surface Reactions in Natural Aqueous Colloidal Systems
Published 1989-06-01“…The reactive proportion of each kind of functional group at a colloid surface depends on the extent of chemical weathering and the composition of the material cycling through the aqueous environment. – The principal mechanisms of reaction between surface functional groups and ions or molecules in aqueous solution, referred to generically as «adsorption», are (1) inner-sphere complexation, (2) outer-sphere complexation, and (3) association with a diffuse ion swarm. …”

Published 2025-08-01“…The application of quenching and tempering treatments induced softening of Cu-containing samples due to Cu recrystallization and diffusion from supersaturated Fe-rich phases. Although solidification cracking was only observed in 75% 4130–25% individual samples, the analysis of a complete multilayer structure revealed that interlayer mixing causes local compositional variations, extending cracking susceptibility beyond this region. …”

Determining boride layer thicknesses formed on XC38 steel with artificial neural network
Published 2024-09-01“…They are achieved by a process known as boriding in which boron atoms are diffused into the material until saturation, where a layer that may be mono or dual-phased begins to thicken over time depending on the period of treatment, the temperature held, the media applied, the composition of the material with its impurities, and more. …”

Research and Analysis of the Causes of White Stripe Defects in the Anodizing Process of 1100 Aluminum Plates
Published 2025-01-01“…In order to investigate the causes of white stripe defects on the surface of 1100 aluminum plates during the anodizing process, chemical composition analysis, macroscopic morphology analysis, surface roughness analysis, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) analysis and X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis were conducted to study the white stripe defects on the surface of the anodized 1100 aluminum plates. Results showed that the types, quantities and area fractions of AlFeSi phases in the white stripe defect areas were fewer than those in the normal areas. After anodizing fewer pits and corrosion holes caused by the AlFeSi phases were found in the white stripe defect areas compared to the normal areas. The surface roughness was also smaller in the defect areas than in the normal areas, which led to less diffuse reflection under natural light in the white stripe defect areas than in the normal areas, making them appear brighter and whiter compared to the normal areas.…”
