Analytical assessment of metagenomic workflows for pathogen detection with NIST RM 8376 and two sample matrices by Jason G. Kralj, Stephanie L. Servetas, Samuel P. Forry, Monique E. Hunter, Jennifer N. Dootz, Scott A. Jackson

    Published 2025-04-01
“…In this work, we demonstrate how spike-ins elucidate workflow performance in two highly dissimilar sample types (stool and CSF), and we provide evidence that detection of individual organisms is unaffected by background sample composition, making detection sample-agnostic within a workflow. …”

Accurate detection of shared genetic architecture from GWAS summary statistics in the small-sample context. by Thomas W Willis, Chris Wallace

    Published 2023-08-01
“…The genetic correlation is a well-known means of quantifying and testing for genetic similarity between traits, but its estimates are subject to comparatively large sampling error. This makes it unsuitable for use in a small-sample context. …”

An efficient spectrum sensing of mixed kernel SVM based on sampling covariance matrix by Jianyuan NIE, Jianrong BAO, Bin JIANG, Chao LIU, Fang ZHU, Jianhai HE

    Published 2019-11-01
“…In recent years, with the blind detection algorithms were proposed, more and more blind algorithms based on sampling covariance matrix were applied to spectrum sensing. The detection threshold was an approximation, and the detection performance would be affected for this algorithms. Thus, the mixed kernel function support vector machine (SVM) efficient spectrum sensing based on sampling covariance matrix was proposed. The statistics which were maximum minimum eigenvalue (MME) and covariance absolute value (CAV) of sensing signal sampling covariance matrices were used as the feature vectors of SVM and were trained to generate a spectrum sensing classifier. The advantage of this algorithm was that it needn’t calculate the detection threshold and the extraction of features reduces size of the sample set.The genetic algorithm (GA) was used to optimize the parameters of mixed kernel function SVM algorithm. The experimental results show that the proposed method has higher detection probability than MME and CAV algorithms, and has less sensing time than SVM,which has good practicability.…”

Adaptable electro-optic detection of THz radiation using a laser-written bull’s-eye antenna by Hesam Heydarian, Xitong Xie, Aswin Vishnuradhan, Wei Cui, Arnaud Weck, Angela Gamouras, Jean-Michel Ménard

    Published 2025-01-01
“…Additionally, the plasmonic structure minimizes diffraction effects allowing a relatively long interaction length between the transmitted THz field and the co-propagating near-infrared gating pulse used in an electro-optic sampling configuration. We show an increased detection sensitivity over a large spectral range extending from 1.4 THz to 3.1 THz with a peak enhancement factor of 3.1 at 2.7 THz. …”
