Comparative Analysis of Human Umbilical Cord Blood-Derived Mesenchymal Stem Cells between Preeclampsia and Normal Pregnant Women by Han-Sung Hwang, Yong-Sun Maeng

    Published 2020-01-01
“…Given the adverse environment of fetal circulation made in the preeclamptic condition, and the role of mesenchymal stem cell (MSC) as a multipotent progenitor cell, we hypothesized that MSCs derived from human umbilical cord blood (hUCB-MSCs) obtained from preeclampsia are adversely altered or affected compared with normal pregnancy. The aim of this study was to analyze the biological characteristics and compare the functional abilities and gene expression patterns of hUCB-MSCs originating from pregnant women with and without severe preeclampsia. hUCB-MSCs were isolated and cultured from 28 pregnant women with severe preeclampsia and 30 normal pregnant women. hUCB-MSCs obtained from women with preeclampsia were less proliferative and more senescent and had lower telomerase activity and higher ROS activity than cells from women with normal pregnancy. …”

Construction of a theoretical framework for the downstream effects of social alienation in young-onset dementia patients based on grounded theory by KANG Yun, SHAO Yan, PENG Guihai, ZHU Shuzhen, LI Longti

    Published 2024-07-01
“…Objective To explore and construct a theoretical framework for the downstream effects of social alienation in youny-onset dementia (YOD) patients, based on grounded theory methodology. Methods Purpose sampling was employed, and data were collected from January to March 2023 at 3 top tertiary hospitals and 6 community health service centers in Shiyan city, patients with YOD and their caregivers at different levels and stages of cognitive function of the disease courses as study subjects. Data were gathered using semi-structured interviews and analyzed through procedural grounded theory methods using NVIVO 12.0 software for open, axial, and selective coding to test the saturation of the theory. Results Cognitive decline process, diminished occupational abilities, emotional isolation and psychological stress, shrinking social activities and interactions, declining life skills and quality, and increased need for medical and social support were the six main dornains of the core category "social alienation downstream effects in YOD patiens" and were categorized as the central impact, functional decrement, emotional disorder, social disconnection, life adaptation, and support dependence. Conclusion This research constructed a six-dimensional theoretical framework for the downstream effects of social alienation in YOD patients. …”
