A Practical Sensor-to-Segment Calibration Method for Upper Limb Inertial Motion Capture in a Clinical Setting by Mhairi McInnes, Dimitra Blana, Andrew Starkey, Edward K. Chadwick

    Published 2025-01-01
“…With twenty healthy participants, we used OpenSim’s inertial sensor workflow to calculate joint kinematics, and evaluated the accuracy of the method through comparison with optical motion capture. We found the new calibration method resulted in upper limb kinematics with a median RMS error of 5–8°, and a median correlation coefficient of 0.977–0.987, which was significantly more accurate than a static pose calibration (p-value < 0.001).This work has demonstrated a method of calibration which is practical for clinical applications because it is quick to perform and does not depend on the subject’s ability to perform specific movements, or on the operator’s ability to carefully place sensors.Clinical Impact: The calibration method proposed in this work is a realistic option for the translation of inertial sensor technology into everyday clinical use.…”

Study on the crack self-healing performance of nano-micro silica modified hydrogel by MA Mengyang, LI Ting, WANG Tie, LONG Yong, SU Ying, YANG Jin

    Published 2025-08-01
“…This enabled the cracked samples to have a lower gas permeability coefficient, especially under 0.3 mm wide cracks, showing a more explicit healing effect; (2) For 0.1 mm narrow cracks, hydrogels already exhibited good crack healing effects at a low dosage of 1 %, while for 0.3 mm wide cracks, hydrogels only demonstrated a higher healing efficiency at a high dosage of 3 %; (3) Either under wide crack or narrow crack conditions, the gas permeability of cracked samples containing larger initial particle size hydrogels was significantly lower than that of smaller particle size samples, indicating that hydrogel with larger particle size has better crack healing ability.…”
