Machine learning solutions for integrating partially overlapping genetic datasets and modelling host–endophyte effects in ryegrass (Lolium) dry matter yield estimation by Jiashuai Zhu, Jiashuai Zhu, M. Michelle Malmberg, Maiko Shinozuka, Renata M. Retegan, Noel O. Cogan, Noel O. Cogan, Joe L. Jacobs, Joe L. Jacobs, Khageswor Giri, Kevin F. Smith, Kevin F. Smith

    Published 2025-05-01
“…To address these challenges: (1) we implemented a population genotyping approach to capture the genetic diversity in ryegrass base cultivars; (2) we introduced a machine learning-based strategy to integrate genetic distance matrices (GDMs) from incompatible genotyping approaches, including alignments using multidimensional scaling (MDS) and Procrustes transformation, as well as a novel evaluation strategy (BESMI) for the imputation of structural missing data. Endophytes complicate genetic evaluation by introducing additional variation in phenotypic expression. (3) We modelled the impacts of nine commercial endophytes on ryegrass DMY, enabling a more balanced estimation of untested cultivar–endophyte combinations. (4) Phylogenetic analysis provided a pseudo-pedigree relationship of the 113 ryegrass populations and revealed its associations with DMY variations. …”

Phylogeographic history of Parthenocissus (Vitaceae) in North America based on chloroplast and nuclear DNA sequences by Di Wu, Ying Meng, Jun Wen, Ze-Long Nie

    Published 2025-06-01
“…Knowledge of historical distribution and postglacial phylogeographic evolution of plants is important for better understanding their current distribution, population structure and potential fate in the future. Surprisingly, little is known about the post-glacial recolonization history of lianas that are widely distributed in the deciduous or mixed deciduous-evergreen forests in North America. …”

Spatial Patterns and Environmental Control of Polychaete Communities in the Southwestern Barents Sea by Dinara R. Dikaeva, Alexander G. Dvoretsky

    Published 2024-11-01
“…The southern region featured the most abundant community, the middle part exhibited the highest diversity, and the northern area presented the community with the highest biomass. These spatial variations in community structure corresponded closely to the distribution and properties of water masses within the study area. …”
