Eye Tracking in the Wild: the Good, the Bad and the Ugly
Published 2015-10-01“…We then discuss in more technical terms the differences in approach required “in the wild”, compared to “received” lab-based methods. We highlight how the unreflecting application of lab-based analysis methods, terminology, and tacit assumptions can lead to poor experimental design or even spurious results (the Ugly). …”

Constant modulus algorithm for blind equalization under impulsive noise environments
Published 2009-01-01“…The presence of α stable distributed ambient channel noise in wireless systems can degrade the per-formance of existing constamt modulus(CM) equalizers. The problem of blind equalization in noisy communication channels was investigated by addressing the negative effects of heavy-tailed noise to the original constant modulus algorithm based on a stochastic gradient descent(SGD-CMA).Two modified algorithms were proposed. The first is robust CM algorithm based on SGD(SGD-RCMA) and the second is robust CM based on recursive least square(RLS-RCMA) novel methods are robust under both Gaussian and α stable distributed ambient noise environments. And compared to SGD-RCMA method, the RLS-RCMA method has a significantly faster convergence rate and more powerful ISI impressing ability.…”

Effects of differential protein removal on the properties of early indica rice flour
Published 2024-08-01“…ObjectiveTo investigate the mechanism of the effect of deproteinisation on the physicochemical and functional properties of rice flour.MethodsEnzymatic and alkaline methods were used to remove protein from early rice flour, and the damaged starch content, size distribution, morphology, solubility, swelling power, pasting characteristics and textural characteristics of the deproteinized rice flour were analyzed.ResultsSodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE) and confocal laser scanning microscope (CLSM) showed that the alkaline method equally removed the protein subunit where as the enzymatic method showed a better homogeneity of protein removal from the surface of starch. The size distribution of the control showed a majorpeak at ca.70 μm and it shifted to 6μmafter protein removal. …”

Receiver scheme of rake equalization for 60GHz pulse communication system
Published 2016-01-01“…Dispersion of the signal energy and the inter symbol interference(ISI)is caused by the multipath fading in 60GHz pulse communication environment. To solve this problem, the severity of the ISI in the system was analyzed, and the method to eliminate interference was studied.Based on the 60GHz wireless channel model established by IEEE 802.15.3c,the simulation platform of 60GHz pulse communication system was built.Theoretical analysis and numerical simulation of ISI in the system were carried out,and a receiver scheme of combining Rake receiver and equalizer was designed. Results show that, the two taps MRC-Rake receiver module combined with MMSE linear equalization module can not only improve the signal energy by multipath diversity, but also eliminate ISI.The performance of the system was improved without increasing the complexity. The scheme provides a reference for the design of 60GHz pulse communication system in the future.…”
