Impairment of neuronal activity in the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex occurs early in parkinsonism
Published 2025-01-01“…Little is known, however, regarding how neuronal activity in the executive control network of the brain changes in the parkinsonian condition.ObjectiveInvestigate the impact of parkinsonism on neuronal activity in the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC), a key region in executive control, during a go/nogo reaching task.MethodsUsing a within-subject design, single and multi-unit neuronal activity was recorded in the DLPFC of a nonhuman primate (n = 1) before and after the induction of mild parkinsonism using the neurotoxin 1-methyl-4-phenyl-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridine (MPTP).ResultsCoincident with development of mild parkinsonian motor signs, there was a marked reduction in the percentage of DLPFC cells with significant task-related firing rate modulation during go and nogo conditions.ConclusionThese results suggest that DLPFC dysfunction may occur early in parkinsonism and contribute to cognitive impairments and disrupted executive function often observed in PD patients.…”

Rectal spacer use and overall long-term healthcare costs: payer perspective
Published 2025-08-01“…However, total insurer paid costs over the following 4 years post-RT were significantly lower for RS patients by $8,095 ($52,345 vs. $60,440, p=0.011). Similar patterns were observed when examining costs related to bowel, sexual, or urinary dysfunction separately.ConclusionsPatients with RS use undergoing PCa RT had significantly lower long-term overall healthcare costs despite incurring higher initial costs prior to and during RT, suggesting that upfront investment in RS may be offset by long-term savings for insurers.…”

The Effect of Audible Joint Manipulation Sounds in the Upper Cervical Spine on Brain Wave and Autonomic Nervous System Activity
Published 2025-01-01“…Background: High-velocity, low-amplitude (HVLA) manipulation is a common manual therapy technique used for treating pain and musculoskeletal dysfunction. An audible manipulation sound is commonly experienced by patients who undergo HVLA manipulation; however, there is little known about the effects and clinical relevance of the audible manipulation sound on cortical output and the autonomic nervous system. …”
