Beyond the individual: governing AI’s societal harm
Published 2021-09-01“…Drawing on a legal domain specifically aimed at protecting a societal interest—environmental law—I identify three ‘societal’ mechanisms that EU policymakers should consider in the context of AI. These concern (1) public oversight mechanisms to increase accountability, including mandatory impact assessments with the opportunity to provide societal feedback; (2) public monitoring mechanisms to ensure independent information gathering and dissemination about AI’s societal impact; and (3) the introduction of procedural rights with a societal dimension, including a right to access to information, access to justice, and participation in public decision-making on AI, regardless of the demonstration of individual harm. …”

Which factors influence plan reuse in a sequential posture selection task?
Published 2025-02-01“…A recent study showed a significant drop in PoR if participants were asked to skip every second drawer in a sequential drawer opening task. In the current study, we sought to disentangle four confounded factors that were potentially responsible for this drop in PoR: a change of (1) spatial distance, (2) digit distance, (3) number of drawers, or (4) context (presence of skipped drawers). …”

Impaired plasma membrane calcium ATPase activity and mitochondrial dysfunction contribute to calcium dysregulation in Fabry disease-related painful neuropathy
Published 2025-09-01“…The obtained results suggest that other transport proteins participate in Ca2+ homeostasis in FD and their dysfunction may be directly involved in nociception. In this context, plasma-membrane Ca2+ ATPases exhibited reduced activity in FD, leading to an increased resting [Ca2+]i in sensory neurons. …”

Operation of a wind turbine permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMSG) for ancillary frequency support services
Published 2025-06-01“…However, controlled WT over-rating could also be used to deliver additional power in high wind conditions, but remains as of yet unexplored in the context of ancillary service provision. This paper proposes a new enhanced power recovery through overload (EPRO) strategy, combining pitch angle and field weakening controllers for overspeed/overload operation while considering the thermal state of the generator to exploit its thermal rating margin for increased power flow. …”
