Ghrelin stimulation of growth hormone-releasing hormone neurons is direct in the arcuate nucleus.
Published 2010-02-01“…Indeed, ghrelin does not modify synaptic currents of GHRH neurons. However, ghrelin exerts a strong and direct depolarizing effect on GHRH neurons, which supports their increased firing rate.…”

Long-term interleukin-6 levels and subsequent risk of coronary heart disease: two new prospective studies and a systematic review.
Published 2008-04-01“…An updated systematic review of electronic databases and other sources identified 15 relevant previous population-based prospective studies of IL-6 and clinical coronary outcomes (i.e., MI or coronary death). Including the two current studies, the 17 available prospective studies gave a combined odds ratio of 1.61 (95% CI 1.42-1.83) per 2 SD increase in baseline IL-6 (corresponding to an odds ratio of 3.34 [95% CI 2.45-4.56] per 2 SD increase in usual [long-term average] IL-6 levels).…”

Monitoring of hepatitis E virus infection and replication by functional tagging of the ORF2 protein
Published 2025-03-01“…Understanding of the mechanisms underlying productive HEV infection remains incomplete and would benefit from technological advances improving current model systems. Methods: We exploited transposon-mediated random insertion and selection of viable clones to identify sites in the HEV open reading frame 2 (ORF2) protein, corresponding to the viral capsid, allowing for the insertion of reporter sequences in a functional context. …”

The comparative study of the corrosion stability of Zn-Ni-Co alloy coatings deposited from chloride and sulphate baths
Published 2017-06-01“…On the other hand, [Co2+]/Ni2+] ion ratio showed a significant influence on corrosion behaviour of ternary alloy coatings, and this influence was more pronounced with alloys deposited from chloride baths. It was shown that increased corrosion protection of steel can be achieved by electrochemical deposition of ternary alloys that contained lower amount off the alloying elements, while the composition of the ternary alloy can be optimized by proper choice of the type and composition of the deposition bath.…”

Improving follow-up imaging practices for patients with community-acquired pneumonia
Published 2025-06-01“…Introduction: The incidence of lung cancer in patients presenting to hospital with community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) is variably reported as 1–9.2%.1–3 The radiographic features of pneumonia and lung cancer can be similar. Therefore, in the context of lower respiratory tract symptoms, a malignancy visible on a chest X-ray may be missed. The British Thoracic Society (BTS) guidelines for the management of CAP in adults (2009) recommend that high-risk patients (aged >50 and current or ex-smokers) with consolidation on a chest X-ray should be followed up with a repeat chest X-ray 6 weeks after their initial presentation to ensure resolution of changes and to exclude an underlying malignancy.3Initial audit data in our local respiratory department showed that 41% of patients were incorrectly not followed up with repeat imaging. …”
