Effects of the stress hormone norepinephrine on the probiotic properties of Levilactobacillus: antibacterial colonization, anti-inflammation, and antioxidation by Lingdi Niu, Mingchun Gao, Yifan Li, Chaonan Wang, Chaonan Wang, Chuankun Zhang, Haoyuan Duan, Hai Li, Fang Wang, Junwei Ge

    Published 2025-02-01
“…Furthermore, in the mouse model, NE weakens the protective effect of L. brevis 23,017 on Escherichia coli infection, which is shown by the decreased ability of antibacterial colonization, antioxidation, and anti-inflammation, and downregulating the expression of antioxidant genes and intestinal mucosal barrier-related genes. …”

Golden Tandem of Photothermal Ablation and Simultaneous Anti-Inflammation in One Nanoparticle for Activated Macrophage-Targeted Atherosclerosis Treatment by Lu Y, Wang Y, Li Y, Li Y, Jiang YW, Li J

    Published 2025-02-01
“…However, PTT can induce inflammatory responses, in turn stimulating the regeneration of atherosclerosis and hindering subsequent therapy. Methods: In this paper, a multifunctional nanoparticle (Au NR@SiO2/RSNO/DS, GSNPD) for the synergistic treatment of atherosclerosis through PTT and anti-inflammation effects was developed. The preparation and characterization of GSNPD, their cellular toxicity, photothermal conversion and targeted ablation efficiency, anti-inflammation and ROS scavenging effect, as well as the inhibition of foam cell formation were studied in vitro. Results: The experimental results showed that the fabricated GSNPD NPs displayed positive effects on anti-atherosclerosis by pro-inflammatory macrophages ablation, NO production and ROS scavenging.Discussion: GSNPD NPs were designed to effectively and accurately ablate pro-inflammatory macrophages by recognizing and targeting to SR-A overexpressed on the activated macrophages of arterial plaques via PTT, and simultaneous inhibit the PTT-induced inflammation through the laser-activated NO release in situ. …”

Multi-omics unveils strain-specific neuroactive metabolite production linked to inflammation modulation by Bacteroides and their extracellular vesicles by Basit Yousuf, Walid Mottawea, Galal Ali Esmail, Nazila Nazemof, Nour Elhouda Bouhlel, Emmanuel Njoku, Yingxi Li, Xu Zhang, Zoran Minic, Riadh Hammami

    Published 2025-01-01
“…GABA production by B. finegoldii had a limited impact on gut barrier integrity but a significant role in modulating inflammation. This study is the first to demonstrate the presence of a myriad of neuroactive metabolites produced by Bacteroides species in a strain- and media-specific manner in supernatant and EVs, with GABA being the most dominant metabolite and influencing immune responses.…”
