Thyroid function abnormalities in individuals with sickle cell disease: a meta-analysis by Sagad O. O. Mohamed, Hussein Ahmed, Mohammed A. H. Mohammednoor, Khalefa B. K. Alzubeir, Safaa Fadlelmoula, Osman O. A. Abdallah, Izzut Awad Ahmed

    Published 2025-02-01
    “…While non-significant, there was a trend towards lower levels of triiodothyronine (T3), thyroxin (T4), free T3, and free T4 in the SCD group (T3: SMD = -1.746; 95% CI, -3.561–0.070; p = 0.059; T4: SMD = -1.365; 95% CI, -3.030–0.300; p = 0.108; free T3: SMD = -0.384; 95% CI, -1.128–0.356; p = 0.311; free T4: SMD = -1.205; 95% CI, -2.522–0.111; p = 0.073). …”

Need to clamp indwelling urinary catheters before removal after different durations: a systematic review and meta-analysis by Xiaoyan Fan, Sumin Ma, Jiayi Gu

    Published 2023-02-01
“…The pooled results of the meta-analysis showed that the clamping group had a significantly higher risk of urinary tract infections (RR=1.47; 95% CI 1.26 to 1.72; p<0.00001) and a longer hour to first void (SMD=0.19; 95% CI 0.08 to 0.29; p=0.0004) compared with the free drainage group. Subgroup analysis of indwelling urinary catheter use durations of ≤7 days indicated that clamping significantly increased the risk of urinary tract infection (RR=1.69; 95% CI 1.42 to 2.02, p<0.00001) and lengthens the interval to first void (SMD=0.26, 95% CI 0.11 to 0.41, p=0.0008) compared with free drainage. Conclusions Bladder training by clamping indwelling urinary catheters increases the incidence of urinary tract infection and lengthens the hours to first void in patients with indwelling urinary catheters use durations of ≤7 days compared with the free drainage. …”

Faster model-based estimation of ancestry proportions by Santander, Cindy G., Refoyo Martinez, Alba, Meisner, Jonas

    Published 2024-12-01
“…We present a new model-based approach, fastmixture, which adopts aspects from likelihood-free approaches for parameter initialization, followed by a mini-batch expectation-maximization procedure to model the standard likelihood. …”

Mathematical Modelling of the Transmission of Ebola Virus in Human Populations in Uganda. by Nkamuhabwa, Jolly

    Published 2024
“…The research proposal is guided by some objectives which include developing and analyzing a mathematical model for the transmission of the Ebola virus in human populations of Uganda, formulating a modified SIER model for the Ebola virus disease transmission dynamics, determining disease-free equilibrium points and the basic reproduction number, to determine the endemic equilibrium points and to investigate the local stability of both the disease-free and endemic equilibrium points. …”
