Portulaca oleracea L. (purslane) extract ameliorates intestinal inflammation in diet-induced obese mice by inhibiting the TLR4/NF-κB signaling pathway
Published 2025-01-01“…Chronic oral administration of purslane extract ameliorated colon shortening syndrome and reduced bowel inflammation in HFD-induced obese mice through suppression of the toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4)/nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB) signaling pathway to downregulate TLR4, myeloid differentiation factor 88 (MyD88), Ser32 phosphorylation of NF-κB inhibitor alpha (IκBα), and Ser536 phosphorylation of NF-κB p65 expression levels, thereby inhibiting the pro-inflammatory cytokines, tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α and interleukin (IL)-6 levels.ConclusionThe present study supports the anti-inflammatory potential of purslane extract for modulating bowel inflammation under obesity through inhibition of the TLR4/NF-κB signaling pathway.…”

QALYs: The Math Doesn’t Work
Published 2023-07-01“…Furthermore, our review of the mathematical properties of QALYs, including an analysis of quality-of-life utility (QOL utility) data recently collected from patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), has led us to conclude that QALYs are an inappropriate metric of drug and treatment cost-effectiveness for all people, both disabled and nondisabled, and should not be the basis for US healthcare policy decisions.…”

Inflammasome in Intestinal Inflammation and Cancer
Published 2013-01-01“…In this review, we discuss the molecular structure, the mechanisms behind the inflammasome activation, and its possible role in the pathogenesis of inflammatory bowel diseases and intestinal cancer. Here, we show that the available data points towards the importance of the inflammasome in the innate intestinal immune response, being the complex involved in the maintenance of intestinal homeostasis, correct intestinal barrier function and efficient elimination of invading pathogens.…”
