Principles, barriers and enablers to agroecological animal production systems: a qualitative approach based on five case studies
Published 2025-02-01“…Following a multilevel perspective, we propose a new eight-category framework to categorise barriers and enablers in these different socioecological contexts, and discuss the implications of these results for scaling out and scaling up agroecological niche innovations in animal production areas. Though we could observe activities related to each agroecological principle in each case study, the relative importance of each principle differed. …”

FAM134B-mediated endoplasmic reticulum autophagy protects against cisplatin-induced spiral ganglion neuron damage
Published 2025-01-01“…Inhibiting autophagy increased the expression of FAM134B, and aggravated Cis-induced SGN damage, while the opposite changes were observed when autophagy was activated. Additionally, co-treatment with the N-Acetyl-L-Cysteine (NAC), ROS scavenger, alleviated Cis-induced ER stress, ER-phagy, and apoptosis. …”

Bidirectional effect modifications of temperature and PM2.5 on myocardial infarction morbidity and mortality in Beijing, China from 2007 to 2021
Published 2025-01-01“…The temperature effect on MI morbidity was also modified by PM2.5, with a gradual upward risk trend observed with increasing PM2.5 concentration. Specifically, the heat wave effect was greater at high PM2.5 concentration strata (1.097, 95 % CI: 1.042, 1.155) than at low strata (0.954, 95 % CI: 0.890, 1.023) (PZ test=0.002). …”

Expression of the NUP153 and YWHAB genes from their canonical promoters and alternative promoters of the LINE-1 retrotransposon in the placenta of the first trimester of pregnancy
Published 2023-03-01“…The LINE-1 methylation index negatively correlated with the level of gene expression from both canonical (NUP153 – R = –0.59, YWHAB – R = –0.52, p < 0.05) and alternative LINE-1 promoters (NUP153 – R = –0.46, YWHAB – R = –0.66, p < 0.05). Thus, the observed increase in the LINE-1 methylation index in the placenta of spontaneous abortions is associated with the level of expression of the NUP153 and YWHAB genes not only from alternative but also from canonical promoters, which can subsequently lead to negative consequences for normal embryogenesis.…”

Extracellular HMGB1 blockade inhibits tumor growth through profoundly remodeling immune microenvironment and enhances checkpoint inhibitor-based immunotherapy
Published 2021-03-01“…Indeed, without affecting the global number of (CD45+) immune cells, drastic reductions of monocytic/granulocytic myeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSC) and regulatory T lymphocytes, a higher M1/M2 ratio of macrophages as well as an increased activation of both DC and pDC were continually observed following HMGB1 inhibition. Moreover, blocking HMGB1 improved the efficacy of anti-PD-1 cancer monoimmunotherapy. …”

Community-based HPV self-collection versus visual inspection with acetic acid in Uganda: a cost-effectiveness analysis of the ASPIRE trial
Published 2018-06-01“…In both arms, VIA was performed at the local health unit by midwives with VIA-positive women receiving immediate treatment with cryotherapy.Design We informed a Monte Carlo simulation model of HPV infection and cervical cancer with screening uptake, compliance and retrospective cost data from the ASPIRE trial; additional cost, test performance and treatment effectiveness data were drawn from observational studies. The model was used to assess the cost-effectiveness of each arm of ASPIRE, as well as an HPV screen-and-treat strategy (‘HPV-ST’) involving community-based self-collected HPV testing followed by treatment for all HPV-positive women at the clinic.Outcome measures The primary outcomes were reductions in cervical cancer risk and incremental cost-effectiveness ratios (ICERs), expressed in dollars per year of life saved (YLS).Results HPV-ST was the most effective and cost-effective screening strategy, reducing the lifetime absolute risk of cervical cancer from 4.2% (range: 3.8%–4.7%) to 3.5% (range: 3.2%–4%), 2.8% (range: 2.4%–3.1%) and 2.4% (range: 2.1%–2.7%) with ICERs of US$130 (US$110–US$150) per YLS, US$240 (US$210–US$280) per YLS, and US$470 (US$410–US$550) per YLS when performed one, three and five times per lifetime, respectively. …”
