Skillful prediction of Indian Ocean Dipole index using machine learning models
Published 2025-02-01“…In this study, we evaluated six machine learning models for their skill in predicting the Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD). The results based on the IOD index predictions at 1–8 month lead time indicate that the AdaBoost model with Multi-Layer Perceptron as the base estimator, AdaBoost(MLP), to perform better than the other five models in predicting the IOD index at all lead times. …”

Volcanically forced Madden–Julian oscillation triggers the immediate onset of El Niño
Published 2025-02-01“…Because the land areas surrounding the Indo-Pacific warm pool dry more quickly after a volcanic eruption, the background moisture distribution becomes more favorable for the MJO to propagate eastward from the Indian Ocean into the Pacific. This increases the likelihood of ensemble members having stronger MJO activity in the western Pacific by about 35% compared to non-volcanic years, which subsequently increases the frequency of westerly wind bursts by about 76%, ultimately enhancing the probability of the onset of an El Niño by about 98% following major volcanic eruptions.…”

Near-chromosome level genome assembly of devil firefish, Pterois miles
Published 2023-07-01“…Devil firefish (Pterois miles), a member of Scorpaenidae family, is one of the most successful marine non-native species, dominating around the world, that was rapidly spread into the Mediterranean Sea, through the Suez Canal, originating from the Indian Ocean. Even though lionfishes (Scorpaenidae) are identified among the most prosperous marine invaders, within this taxonomic group, the genomic resources are scant, while reference genome assemblies are totally absent. …”
