description This study examined the relationship between political accountability and social service delivery in local governments, specifically in Nyundo Sub-county, Kisoro District. The objectives were to explore the role of politicians in service provision within the Kisoro District local government, identify challenges politicians face during service delivery evaluations in Nyundo Sub-county, and propose strategies to enhance politicians' performance in evaluating service delivery in the local government. The research used a cross-sectional survey design, collecting data from 80 respondents, including local government employees, politicians, health workers, and the general public in Nyundo Sub-county, Kisoro District, through questionnaires and interview guides. The findings revealed that evaluation reports were primarily used to collect data on health service delivery (63%) and training (84%). Politicians played a role in gathering data on health service delivery (41%) and presenting proposals to the council regarding health services (44%). The challenges politicians faced included widespread corruption (51%) and insufficient financial resources (59%). Proposed strategies for improvement included reducing corruption to ensure objectivity (78%) and securing adequate financial resources (24%). The study concluded that evaluation reports served as a key tool for data collection and training, and politicians were involved in data collection and proposal presentation. The challenges of corruption and financial constraints were noted, with recommendations for politicians to avoid corruption and undergo training in monitoring and evaluation. Based on these findings, the study recommended that politicians increase the use of evaluation reports to inform decisions and district health policy reviews. Additionally, it suggested that the local government provide financial and transportation support during evaluations to improve health service delivery within the district.
