description This study investigated the effect of child abuse on the academic performance of pupils in selected primary schools in Kamuganguzi Sub County, Ndorwa West, Kabale District. The objectives are threefold: to investigate the prevalence and types of child abuse experienced by pupils, to identify the causes of child abuse, and to determine its effects on academic performance. The research employed a mixed-methods approach, gathering data through questionnaires, interviews, and academic performance records from teachers, pupils, and local community leaders. The findings revealed a significant prevalence of various forms of child abuse physical, emotional, and neglect among the pupils. The study identified several causes of child abuse, including socioeconomic factors, family dynamics, and cultural practices. The analysis shows a strong correlation between child abuse and poor academic performance, with abused pupils demonstrating lower grades, decreased school attendance, and higher dropout rates compared to their non-abused peers. These findings underscore the urgent need for comprehensive child protection policies, increased awareness, educator training, and the establishment of support systems to improve the academic outcomes and overall well-being of affected pupils.
