description | This study aimed to assess the impact of water hyacinth organic manure on the growth and development of Amaranthus species. Water hyacinth, an invasive aquatic plant, poses environmental challenges, yet its potential as an organic fertilizer remains underexplored. In this research, water hyacinth was processed into organic manure and applied to Amaranthus plant species under controlled conditions. Amaranthus plants were planted in a mixture of water hyacinth organic manure and white sand soil, and other Amaranthus plants were planted in white sand soil only in another group, a control experiment. The growth parameters, including plant height, number of leaves, leaf area index (LAI), and biomass yield, were measured and compared with control groups treated with white sand soil and the groups treated with water hyacinth organic manure mixed with white sand soil over 8 weeks. Results indicated a significant improvement in growth parameters for Amaranthus plants planted in a mixture of water hyacinth organic manure and white sand soil compared to the control group where Amaranthus plant species were only planted in white sand soil, highlighting its efficacy as an alternative and sustainable nutrient source. These findings suggested that water hyacinth can be repurposed into a valuable organic fertilizer, promoting sustainable agricultural practices. |
