The study's findings revealed that 20% of library users are highly knowledgeable about preservation and conservation techniques, demonstrating an advanced understanding and commitment to maintaining the longevity of information materials. A further 40% of users have a moderate understanding, capable of basic preservation actions but occasionally needing assistance for more specialized tasks. Meanwhile, 25% possess basic knowledge, able to follow simple preservation guidelines, and 15% have no knowledge of preservation and conservation practices, underscoring the need for more user education.
The study concluded that the preservation and conservation efforts at the National Teachers’ College Kabale library have proven beneficial. However, addressing identified gaps, such as knowledge disparities among users and limitations in preservation resources, is essential for optimizing the effectiveness of these efforts. The study presents the following recommendations; Allocate resources to improve the library's preservation infrastructure, including purchasing necessary equipment for conservation activities and ensuring adequate storage facilities to prevent the deterioration of information materials and Participate in training sessions and workshops provided by the library to improve their knowledge of preservation and conservation techniques. Users should seek assistance from library staff whenever they encounter difficulties, as staff are available to guide them on appropriate handling practices. |
