description | The design of reliable power filters that mitigate current and voltage harmonics to meet the power quality requirements of the utility grid is a major requirement of present-day power systems. In this project, a detailed systematic approach to design a universal active power filter for power quality enhancement is discussed. The detailed universal active power filter shall be designed and simulated for balanced nonlinear loads using MATLAB/Simulink. The simulation results are intended to indicate that the proposed filter can minimise the harmonic distortion to a level below that deployed by the institute of electrical and electronics engineers (IEEE) standard, which say that THD in a network should not exceed 5%.This project focused on enhancing power quality in low voltage distribution networks at the point of common coupling (PPC) through the design and simulation of a universal active filter system. By combining shunt and series active filters, this hybrid approach addresses both current and voltage distortions, including harmonic currents, reactive power, voltage sags, and swells. [1] The effectiveness of proposed system will be validated through detailed simulations using MATLAB/Simulink software. The goal is to provide a comprehensive solution that improves power quality, protects sensitive equipment, and enhances overall system efficiency. |
