description The study examined the impact of small and medium enterprises on peoples’ household income in the Kabale district a case study of Kabale municipality Kabale district. The objectives of the study were to assess the contributions of SMEs to the development and growth of Kabale municipality, to determine the limitations for the growth of Small and Medium Enterprises in Kabale municipality, and to identify the possible solutions to the limitation of Small and Medium Enterprises in Kabale municipality. The study used a descriptive research design and data was collected using interviews and questionnaires. The study findings on the contributions of SMEs to the development and growth of Kabale municipality were; Job creation, Addressing economic, social, and racial inequalities, Sustaining the rural economy, Enhancing social cohesion and reducing social conflict and contribution to income, and poverty eradication. The study findings on the limitations for the growth of Small and Medium Enterprises in Kabale municipality were; poor infrastructure and marketing strategies, financial constraints, improper business feasibility and increased competition, lack of managerial knowledge and lack of education, and outdated technology. The study findings on the possible solutions to the limitation of Small and Medium Enterprises in Kabale municipality were; improved infrastructure and market enlargement through government help, forming groups with a common cause to raise capital and also being able to borrow money from the bank, carrying out market and business research and ensuring business security, employing experts and training other employees while at work for management purposes and establishment of entrepreneurship trainings and learning centers, providing modern technology to SMEs owners. The study recommended that Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) employ professionals to manage their businesses as this will improve their performance since these will establish and strengthen internal controls as regards financial resources to reduce mismanagement and misappropriations Small scale business operators should widen their markets so as to reduce competition this should be done by integrating market information into the planning process because marketing is the lifeblood of a competitive marketplace.
