Summary:The study examined the effects of agro-based industries on the economic development of Kanungu district. A case study of Rugyeyo sub-county. The objectives of the study were; to find out how agro-based industries have affected the household income of people in the Rugyeyo sub-county, and to identify the effects of agro-based industries on infrastructural developments in the Rugyeyo sub-county. The study used a cross-sectional research design across 60 respondents of the Rugyeyo sub-county Kanungu district. The study concluded that, while agro-based industries have significantly contributed to the economic development of Rugyeyo Sub-county in Kanungu District, a balanced approach is crucial to address challenges and ensure the long-term sustainability of these industries. Continuous collaboration between government agencies, local communities, and industry stakeholders will be key to fostering a resilient and thriving agro-based economy in the region. The recommends that there were; The study recommends that the government should encourage and promote sustainable agricultural practices to minimize the environmental impact of agro-based industries. This includes the adoption of organic farming methods, efficient water usage, and soil conservation techniques. The Ministry of Agriculture should promote diversification within agro-processing activities to reduce dependency on a single crop or product. This can be achieved through the introduction of new processing technologies and the support of emerging value chains. There should be investment in training programs for local farmers and entrepreneurs to enhance their skills in modern agricultural techniques, agro-processing, and business management. This will improve productivity, product quality, and overall competitiveness. Government should facilitate access to financial resources for small-scale farmers and agro-entrepreneurs. This can be achieved through the establishment of financial support mechanisms, such as low-interest loans, grants, and subsidies, to promote investment in agro-based enterprises. There should be a continuation of investment in infrastructure development, including road networks, storage facilities, and processing plants. Improved infrastructure will facilitate the efficient movement of agricultural products, reduce post-harvest losses, and enhance market access. There should be collaboration between government agencies, non-governmental organizations, private sector stakeholders, and local communities. Such partnerships can lead to the development of comprehensive policies, programs, and initiatives that support the sustainable growth of agro-based industries.
