Summary: | The study was about the impact of leadership style and employee motivation in Uganda: A case study of Kabale District Local Government. The study was guided by three objectives which were: to determine the different types of leadership styles used at Kabale District Local Government, to establish the factors enhancing employee motivation in Kabale District Local Government, to ascertain the hindrances to effective leadership style at Kabale District Local Government. A targeted population of 36 respondents was considered for the study. These included the CAO, LC.V Chairperson, and staff at Kabale District Local Government. Both simple random and purposive sampling techniques were used in identifying the study sample size. The methods that were used in data collection included questionnaires, observation, and interviews. Data collected was edited, coded, entered into the computer, and analyzed with Excel, a Microsoft statistical package, the results were presented in tables. Based on results from the study, 100% of the respondents agreed that there are different types of leadership styles used revealing that Kabale District Local Government practices autocratic leadership, democratic leadership style, laissez-faire leadership, situational leadership style, dynamic leadership style, and transformational leadership style. The study findings revealed that factors enhancing employee motivation in Kabale District Local Government these incentives include earning reasonable salaries, financial rewards, proper leadership, motivated employees bringing more profits, and employees being More Productive. From objective three, it was found out as indicated by the respondents from Kabale District Local Government that the hindrances to effective leadership style as reported by respondents are lack of problem-solving, delivering difficult news, lack of leadership process credibility, not enough courage to let go of yesterday’s tools, innovation for innovation’s sake as the hindrances to effective leadership style. The study concluded by showing the different types of leadership styles used revealed that Kabale District Local Government practices autocratic leadership, democratic leadership style, laissez-faire leadership, situational leadership style, dynamic leadership style, and transformational leadership style. The study findings further recommend that the heads of Kabale district local government should briefly implement which leadership is more appropriate to maximize employees’ motivation at the same time. |
