Summary:The study examined monetary rewards and employee performance in SACCOs in the Rukiga district. A case study of Rukiga SACCO Kabale branch. The objectives of the study were; to assess the nature of monetary rewards given to employees in SACCOs, to establish the role of monetary rewards on employee performance in SACCOs, and to examine the relationship between monetary rewards and employees' performance in SACCOS. A cross-sectional research design was used and data was collected using questionnaires and interviews. The findings of the study revealed that rewards monetary rewards motivate employees in all the SACCO's operations. This implies that when employees are rewarded they get a full commitment at work which increases employee performance. The study recommends that Rukiga SACCO should improve its system of rewarding employees. This can be done by identifying the best performance in each department at the end of the year and offering them awards such as cash prizes, gifts, and other items that motivate employees to improve performance. The study further recommends that if employee’s works in an acting capacity for a period of two years have the required qualifications, and have demonstrated their capacity to deliver outputs they should be promoted and confirmed in such positions. The SACCO should not recruit staff from outside to fill such vacancies. This will motivate employees and encourage them to improve their performance. The study concluded by revealing financial monetary rewards such as salaries, accommodation allowances every month non-financial reward, bonuses from managers, certificates among other as the types of rewards used in Rukiga SACCO.
