Description
Summary:The study aimed to establish the role of commercial banks in the performance of small-scale businesses, focusing on three main objectives: determining the relationship between Centenary Bank, Kabale Branch, and the performance of small-scale businesses; identifying the challenges faced by Centenary Bank, Kabale Branch in improving the performance of its small-scale business customers and potential solutions; and exploring the roles played by Centenary Bank in enhancing the performance of small-scale businesses in Kabale. To achieve these objectives, fifty (50) respondents from Centenary Bank, Kabale Branch, were sampled. The research was guided by three questions: how Centenary Bank can help its customers improve the performance of their small-scale businesses, the problems faced by Centenary Bank and the measures to address these problems, and the services provided by Centenary Bank to its small-scale business customers in Kabale. The findings revealed that many small-scale businesses have not fully benefited from the services provided by commercial banks due to high interest rates, difficulties in accessing services, and high levels of illiteracy among the business owners. These challenges have limited the ability of small-scale businesses to obtain loans and other financial support, thereby hindering their investment and performance and leading to poor performance and collapse of many small-scale businesses in Kampala and other parts of the country. The study concluded that there is a need for the government, small-scale business owners, and commercial bank management, including Centenary Bank, to collaborate closely to address the numerous challenges faced by all parties. This cooperation is essential to improve performance and achieve better outcomes.
