description The study investigated the impact of employee welfare schemes on the performance of health facilities, focusing on Rugarama Hospital in Kabale. The objectives were to evaluate the effect of retirement benefits, medical cover, and employee allowances on the hospital's performance. A descriptive research design was used, with data collected through interviews, observations, and questionnaires. The study results regarding the effect of retirement benefits on Rugarama Hospital's performance indicated that retirement benefits influence employee turnover rates, attract better-skilled employees, boost motivation and productivity, increase employee loyalty and reduce absenteeism, improve employee attitudes, and encourage young people to work. For the effect of medical cover on performance, the findings showed that medical insurance availability increases employee motivation and satisfaction, enhances productivity by maintaining employee health, improves retention rates, reduces absenteeism, and ensures that healthier, present employees can provide high-quality patient care. Regarding employee allowances, the results indicated that allowances motivate employees to perform well, increase retention, boost employee satisfaction, enhance productivity, improve service delivery, and provide job satisfaction through benefits like housing, transport, or meal allowances. The study recommended developing a comprehensive medical insurance policy that meets all staff needs and ensures equity. It suggested reviewing the existing policy with staff input to enhance satisfaction and motivation, contributing to better organizational performance. Additionally, Rugarama Hospital should ensure fairness and prompt payment of allowances to all staff and streamline processes to facilitate all employees without discrimination.
