description | The study investigated the digitization of information resources and user satisfaction in the Kabale District local government, Uganda. The study was guided by objectives like establishing the current status of digitization of information in the Kabale district, establishing the utilization of digital information resources in the Kabale District local government, and identifying the challenges in the digitization of information resources in Kabale District local government. This study was based on Descriptive Survey Design. The study population consisted of 108 respondents out of a target population of 116 respondents. Data was collected using both interview and questionnaire methods. The first objective revealed that research revealed that planning is done at the district to see how to digitize documents for quick access and hence easing service delivery at the district, some respondents also showed that the district also does resourcing as a way to get the resources to use while digitizing information in local government. Digital records are being used by government officials who need to know the performance of different sectors of the Kabale district. utilization of digital information resources is done by researchers and policymakers, Other users of digital information resources are the non-governmental organization that works as whistle blow and have helped to reduce the level of resource misuse within the district, students are also users of the digital information resources, students use government rules of management and governance for them to know what needs to be done by public officials to provide services to the people and what needs to be done. Kabale district local government does not have any sort of connection with the other records of the world; as a result, they are unaware of the records development and modern records trends across the world. It can therefore be concluded that much as records are digitized in Kabale district local government and users are utilizing these digitized records, the findings indicate some challenges like Funding of records and inadequate supply of electricity. This could be overcome through the local government and central government putting more finances in records management at the district to help the district have finances to run the digitization programs. Kabale district local government should encourage their staff to obtain requisite knowledge in digitization by organizing seminars, workshops, and in-service training. Government at all levels should provide adequate financial resources for the proper management of information resources in the district records management department (registry). |
