Summary:The study examined the role of information communication technology to teaching and learning geography in secondary schools a case study of Kabale Municipality Kabale District. The objectives of the study were; to identify the role of ICT in teaching and learning of geography in secondary schools of Kabale Municipality, to examine the challenges affecting the use of ICT in enhancing teaching and learning of geography in secondary schools of Kabale Municipality and to suggest possible strategies to challenges affecting the use of ICT in enhancing teaching and learning of geography in secondary schools of Kabale Municipality. A case study research design was used and data was collected using questionnaires and interviews. The study results on the role of ICT in teaching and learning of geography in secondary schools of Kabale Municipality were; ICT increases students confidence and motivation by making school work more enjoyable which enhances their learning capacity, ICT helps teachers with the opportunity to provide various learning tasks within the classroom which enhances students' learning, ICT enhance capability to store and retrieve information easily which improves on geography students learning, accessibility and use of ICT allows geography students to investigate more through the real world through accessing information sources outside the classroom and ICT use gives teachers courage to experiment more and helps them to integrate ICT into lessons effectively and also assist students to assess their own learning in completing specific personal projects. The study findings on the challenges affecting the use of ICT in enhancing teaching and learning of geography in secondary schools of Kabale Municipality were; lack of teacher competence, teachers resistance to change and negative attitudes, lack of effective training, lack of technical support and lack of accessibility to ICT teaching resources. The study results on possible strategies to challenges affecting the use of ICT in enhancing teaching and learning of geography in secondary schools of Kabale Municipality were; building a better relationship between teachers and students to increase the learners motivation and engagement, use of projectors to help learners have clear information, enhancing technical support for teachers, use a balanced data approach to enhance students learning, ensuring use of lesson planning and systematic monitoring and evaluation of ICT use in schools. The study recommended that there is a need for the selected secondary schools to invest more in ICT as means of not only solving accessibility problem but also improving on the presence of the facilities especially computers in the classroom and computer labs and more infrastructures such as printers, computers, projectors should be put in place for more practice and utilization so that teaching and learning of geography can be effective.
