description This study examined the application of the KOHA open-source integrated library system in academic libraries: A case study of Bishop Stuart University to highlight the capabilities and potentials of the KOHA open-source integrated library system and its practical importance to academic libraries. The study was guided by three objectives namely; to find out the benefits of the KOHA open source integrated library system; to determine the extent of use of KOHA and to find out the problems encountered with the use of KOHA. A descriptive survey design was adopted in this research, with a population of twenty-four (24) respondents. The instrument used to generate data was a questionnaire and the data generated was analyzed using frequency tables and percentages. It was found out that KOHA had more benefits to libraries in enhancing service delivery than what was known. It was still observed that KOHA open-source ILS could be used for a lot more tasks within academic libraries. The major challenges encountered with the use of KOHA in libraries included: inadequate funding, inadequate managerial support, inadequate power supply, etc. The findings of this study will serve a very useful purpose for Bishop Stuart University in particular, and other academic libraries within the country and globe at large. The flexibility and friendly nature of KOHA open-source ILS will also enable users to maximize their gains in the search for information.
