Description
Summary:The study was carried out to examine the effect of microfinance institutions on household income. The study aimed to establish the factors constraining the operations of microfinance institutions and their possible remedies, find out the challenges faced by households in accessing microfinance institutions' services, and investigate the benefits of microfinance institutions towards household incomes. This study used a cross-sectional research design where both qualitative and qualitative methods of data collection and analysis were applied. Data was collected from both primary and secondary sources using questionnaires and interview guides. Data was processed and analyzed using formal tables, pie charts, and narrative text. A total of 50 respondents were considered out of the entire study population. The study findings revealed that access to microfinance was significantly associated with improvement in consumption, income, and poverty status among households. Thus households saving and getting loans from Micro Finance Institutions have increased their income. The study recommends that the government should take steps to improve favorable environments for petty businesses (e.g., better infrastructure, and training of business knowledge) to enhance the effectiveness of microfinance on income-generating activities.
