description The rising cost of traditional construction materials and environmental effects of dumped asphalt waste concrete has prompted the investigation into the performance of reclaimed asphalt pavement as aggregates in concrete for rigid pavement construction. The behaviors of conventional and RAP aggregates were investigated in the laboratory, three concrete mixes of 1:1:2, 1;1:1, and 1:1.5:3 at varying water/cement ratios of 0.4, 0.5 and 0.6 were made using RAP and conventional aggregates and casted for strength test. The properties tested include physical properties of RAP (Tests such as sieve analysis, water absorption, relative density, and bulk density) and mechanical properties (compressive strength) of RAP and conventional aggregates concretes. Results of the preliminary tests showed that RAP can be used as aggregates. The compressive strength of RAP aggregate concrete ranges from 5.7 MPa to 21 MPa and conventional aggregates concrete ranges between 6.8 MPa to 22.5 MPA at varying w/c of (0.4,0.5,0.6) to each mix at different ages of curing 3days, 7days, 14days, 21days, 56days). RAP concrete mix of 1:1:2 at 0.5 w/c was established to produce the highest strength value and hence recommended for use in rigid pavement.
