Summary:The purpose of the study was to investigate Records Automation in Health Institutions. The study was guided by four objectives such as; to find out the role of Records Automation in Health Institutions, to establish the Challenges of records automation in Health Institutions and to suggest possible ways of improving records automation in Rugarama Hospital, Kabale District.The research design employed was a description that helped the researcher togather information. Across sectional study design therefore was used to survey the study population. Both qualitative and quantitative data were also were also employed. The targeted population was fifty (50).This included administrators, staff and clients of the Hospital. The researcher used observation, interviewing and questionnaire method. The findings of the study revealed that role of Records automation were ; References, Records for evidence, easy retrieval of information and Management of records, challenges of Records automation were; inadequate fund, Inadequate experienced management personnel, poor storage facilities, inadequate space and understaffing and possible ways of improving records automation in Rugarama Hospital, Kabale District were; soliciting of enough fund, recruitment of experienced personnel, purchase of facilities, trained staff
