Description
Summary:Since the economic opening up of the mid-1980s (Đổi Mới) and the country's insertion into globalised flows, Việt Nam has experienced unprecedented development, which go hand in hand with inequalities and significant territorial differentiation. A new geography is gradually taking shape, partly reclaiming the old bipartite structure of the territory and reflecting, in space and landscape, the singularity of the Vietnamese path of a socialist-oriented market economy. The adoption of neo-liberal rationalities and technologies in parallel with the maintenance of a centralised political structure supported by an authoritarian and developmentalist regime is escorted by sustained growth but also by increasingly significant regional inequalities and spatial fragmentations.
