Description
Summary:For Thomas Fuchs, the human body is an integral component of man’s subjectivity. Access to the body is mediated by the multifarious perspectives he takes – the physical body [Körper], the lived body [Leib], and the body that employs one of the perspectives. However, none of these is exhaustive of the human experience of the body, as the body also constitutes a repository of memory, the nature of which coincides with the nature of man himself – a being irreducible to the animal world, since it cannot be explicated solely in the biological or biological-cultural dimension. Fuchs exposes the mechanisms of body memory and the impact these mechanisms exert on shaping the unique nature of human reality. Through body memory, which unobtrusively but radically moderates man’s memory, the human world gains its uniqueness and overrides the heritage of the past and shapes the present while opening future horizons.
